How to Have a Memorable Outing
at Storm King Art Center
I have a confession to make…
I love spending time with my college girlfriends, but attempting to make plans, with all 6 of them, is sometimes a struggle. We often only agree on two things: Food and Wine! So when planning a memorable girls’ weekend, I was happy to see that we all agreed on visiting ‘Storm King Art Center’ in New Windsor, NY.
Why Storm King Art Center?
Storm King Art Center is like no other place. It houses some of the most glorious sculptures one will ever see in the area.
Our visit to Storm King Art Center happened on a chilly November afternoon when my girlfriends (many are artists themselves) and I went to see what exhibits were on display. As a photographer, I immediately felt inspired when arriving at Storm King and fell in LOVE!
According to their Website:
“Widely celebrated as one of the world’s leading sculpture parks, Storm King Art Center has welcomed visitors from across the globe for more than fifty years. It is located only one hour north of New York City, in the lower Hudson Valley, where its 500-acre landscape of fields, hills, and woodlands provides the setting for a collection of more than 100 carefully sited sculptures created by some of the most acclaimed artists of our time.”
What Makes Storm King Art Center So Special?
More than 100 sculptures are placed among the natural backdrop of the beautiful Hudson Valley landscape.
Some of the artists featured are:
- Henry Moore
- Peter Coffin
- Daniel Buren
- David Stoltz
- Lyman Kipp
- Andy Goldsworthy
- Mark di Suvero
They also offer special exhibitions during each season, so there is always new to see when you visit.
We love exploring the various walkways and trails. Everywhere you turn, there is something to see.
Because there is such a large area to cover, Storm King also offers Bike Rentals for those who prefer to ride between exhibits. We walked and, I can tell you, that it’s a lot to cover in one visit alone.
As you can see from the picture above, we had an amazing time looking at and exploring, at least, some of what Storm King Art Center has to offer.
We definitely have to make a return visit.
