Calling all fans of Hudson Valley Farms.
You need to see this list now!
What’s better than spending the day at Hudson Valley Farms, breathing in the fresh air, pick your own fruit, explore open fields and, possibly, visit their farmers’ markets, gift shops and, best of all, eat local foods.
Now before you tell me that apple picking season on Hudson Valley Farms lasts for only a few months of the year, let me tell you that there is more to Hudson Valley Farms than ‘u-pick’ apples and pumpkins only.
Although apple orchards do make up the majority of Hudson Valley Farms, the region is FULL of other farms that you can visit and explore anytime of the year.
Although I wouldn’t go between January and April, because that’s when the farms are getting ready for the next season of fun and family traditions, the rest of the year is game for you to pick fresh fruit.

Things to Know Before Visiting one of These Hudson Valley Farms
- Some Hudson Valley Farms require a reservation in order to participate in picking your own produce.
- Check each individual website for up-to-date information
- The majority of orchards do not permit dogs, so please make arrangements before you plan your visit.
- These Hudson Valley Farms cannot guarantee that all their crops will be offered for picking every year. It’s all dependent on the spring weather of that year.
- Call each orchard before making the trip for more information as picking availability changes daily.
Prepare for a Trip to Hudson Valley Farms
You cannot always predict the weather when visiting Hudson Valley Farms during any season.
Tip #1:
I highly recommend wearing layers including long sleeves, long pants and sturdy shoes/boots that you don’t mind getting dirty. Orchards and fields can be wet and muddy, especially earlier in the day.
Choose comfortable, sporty clothes and flat, athletic shoes. Be mindful of the weather. It can be cool in the morning and the grass is often wet with dew. By afternoon, the grass dries and the temperatures usually rise.
Tip #2:
Bug spray and sun protection are also good precautions. Please be aware that ticks are a growing issue in the Hudson Valley and I encourage you to wear tick repellent and check for ticks at the end of your visit.
Tip #3:
If you have allergies or are prone to rashes, please keep in mind that some of our crops and plants growing on the farm can irritate the skin.
