Are you looking for a free community-based festival that offers something for everyone to enjoy? Newburgh Illuminated Festival is a wonderful yearly event.

The festival showcases the Best of Newburgh and the Hudson Valley. This year’s June 3rd event was their 5th annual and it is still going strong. There is such a wonderful sense of community at this event. It’s always so nice to see so many people come out and celebrate the arts, both young and old.

The Event takes place on Broadway and on part of Liberty Street in Newburgh. It’s an all-day event and starts at 12 noon and ends at 10 pm. There is so much to see and do at the event, that it can be overwhelming. That’s why I have compiled a list of Must-Do’s to help you navigate the Festival.

#1: Listen to Live Music at one, or all, of the Three Stages located at the Newburgh Illuminated Festival

We had a great time listening to several different musical acts. They were all located at different ends of the Festival. There was definitely something for everyone’s musical tastes. Everyone enjoyed soul music, rock music, and reggae music.

#2: Participate in the Newburgh Illuminated Festival ColorFest

For a small fee ($5/pack at time of this published post), everyone enjoyed the color chalk and dancing to Reggae Music.  This event took place from 4 pm – 6 pm.

#3: Hula Hooping to the sounds of Live Music and the View of the Hudson River

In addition to having Hula Hoops for sale, there were plenty of Hoops available for use during the live musical performances. Everyone, young and old, loved using the hula hoops and dancing.

A Hula Hoop is a must-have for great summer fun! After seeing so many people have fun, we plan to purchase one too.

#4: Enjoy Amazing Dance Performances

I was lucky to see performances by Blue Morph Collective and Azoth Dance Theatre. The setting was beautiful and the performances were magical.
‘Breathtaking’ and ‘inspiring’ are only a few words to describe the dancers and their performances. It all took place at the park at Safe Harbors Green. This space is a newly constructed green space for the community to enjoy.

#5: Watch the Talented One-Man Band

  • Interesting… yes
  • Talented… yes
  • Appears difficult… Absolutely yes

It’s hard to walk past this gentleman and not be intrigued by what he does. He even sings and plays the harmonica! Crazy!

#6: Watch the Skateboarders practice their skills

They definitely defy gravity and may make you decide to pick up a board.  And learn some tricks of your own.

#7: Have a Cupcake from ‘Forget Me Not Cupcakes’

The Winners of the K104 Cupcake Wars were at it again…
They have the most delicious cupcakes around and their variety never disappoints. This is a must-have treat! Granted they are easy to find. Just look for their famous Cupcake Bus!

#8: Get a Henna Tattoo

Our favorite Henna artist was, once again, at the Festival and now offers Glitter Body Art and Glitter Face Painting. My daughter and I got Henna tattoos again this year.
This mother-daughter duo is extremely talented. Indeed, they are on our Top 5 things to do at any festival they happen to be at.

For more information and to see some of their designs visit their website at: www.tipsyturtlehenna.com

And what’s a day at a Festival without a picture of a beautiful dog? This Corgi’s name is Rosie and she was the sweetest dog.
